 Saudi_ICOMOS Organizes a Training Workshop for Students of King Abdulaziz University and Dar Al-Hekma University

From Sunday, August 4th, to Thursday, August 8th, 2024, #Saudi_ICOMOS organized a distinguished training workshop in collaboration with the Royal Commission for AlUla, targeting students from King Abdulaziz University and Dar Al-Hekma University. The workshop focused on discussing and learning heritage preservation skills and ways to actively participate in protecting history and cultural heritage. The training program included academic lectures, practical workshops, and educational field visits for students from the Department of Architecture and Planning, where they were introduced to techniques and methods of cultural heritage preservation.
The workshop was conducted with the collaboration of experts in the field of heritage and preservation, including:
“Dr. Adnan Adas” from Saudi ICOMOS.
“Dr. Ahmed Flata” from King Abdulaziz University.
“Eng. Fouad Hassanin” from the Royal Commission for AlUla’s preservation team.
“Ms. Ruth Ballesteros” from the Royal Commission for AlUla’s preservation team.
“Mr. Andrew Hall” from the Royal Commission for AlUla’s site management team.
“Eng. Youssef Malek” from the Royal Commission for AlUla’s site management team.
The workshop included practical sessions where students were trained in techniques such as laser scanning and modern methods of heritage documentation, helping them gain direct hands-on experience in the field of heritage preservation. Additionally, the workshop featured educational field visits, such as:
A visit to the Old Town with “Ms. Paula Abu Harb”, who provided historical information about the area.
A visit to the Hegra site with “Ms. Ruth Ballesteros”, where students learned about the preservation projects on the site.
A tour of the northern part of the Old Town with “Mr. Andrew Hall”, who explained the area’s architectural styles and preservation projects.
This workshop is part of #Saudi_ICOMOS’s efforts to enhance the new generation’s awareness about the importance of national heritage preservation, building a well-informed generation and actively involved in preservation efforts.
