The role and objectives of international scientific committees are described in the Eger-X'ian Principles , the practical document adopted at the 15th ICOMOS General Assembly and updated in 2013.
“International [scientific] committees are the means through which ICOMOS institutions come together to develop and serve their members worldwide according to areas of specialized interest. ICOMOS expects these committees to be at the heart of scientific research and exchange in their fields and to share knowledge among themselves to promote a multidisciplinary approach to heritage protection and management in order to achieve the objectives of ICOMOS as set out in Article 5. B. Among its laws: “Collect, study and disseminate information on principles, techniques and policies” related to heritage protection. “
